Buffalo Bills Sign Mitchell Trubisky As Backup Quarterback For 2022 Season

The Buffalo Bills have made a strategic move in their quarterback lineup for the upcoming 2022 season by signing Mitchell Trubisky as a backup quarterback. Trubisky, who previously backed up Josh Allen for the Bills in 2021, has agreed to terms with the team once again. This signing positions Trubisky to compete for a starting spot with the Bills, as current backup Kyle Allen is set to enter free agency next week.

Brandon Beane, the general manager of the Buffalo Bills, expressed the importance of having experienced quarterbacks on the roster, noting that most quarterbacks tend to miss a few games during a season. Trubisky’s return to the Bills’ quarterback room comes after his release from the Pittsburgh Steelers in February.

Trubisky, a 29-year-old quarterback, had a challenging season as a backup in 2023 with the Steelers, leading to his eventual benching by Mason Rudolph. Despite starting as the backup in Pittsburgh, Trubisky found himself inactive for crucial games towards the end of the season, including the playoff matchup against the Bills.

During his time with the Steelers, Trubisky appeared in a total of 12 games, starting in seven of them. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 12,536 passing yards, with 72 touchdowns and 48 interceptions in 69 games (57 starts). This experience and depth at the quarterback position are key for the Bills as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The return of Mitchell Trubisky to the Buffalo Bills brings familiarity and depth to their quarterback rotation, providing valuable support and competition within the team. With Josh Allen at the helm and Trubisky serving as a reliable backup, the Bills are looking to strengthen their quarterback lineup for a competitive 2022 season in the NFL.

This move by the Buffalo Bills underscores their commitment to building a strong and versatile roster, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. Stay tuned to ESPN for more updates and insights on the latest NFL transactions and team developments.
