Buffalo Weather: Above Normal Temperatures Give Way to Potential Snowfall by Weekend
Western New York, particularly the Buffalo area, is experiencing temperatures above normal through the midweek, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service. This warm spell will greet the Kansas City Chiefs as they face the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Sunday, with cloudy skies and highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s expected.
A high-pressure system will dominate the region on Sunday, resulting in fair and dry weather. However, a cold front is set to cross the area tonight into Monday morning, bringing a round of showers that will move out during the day. High temperatures in the mid 50s are forecast for Monday.
A brief quiet period from Monday afternoon into Tuesday afternoon will precede a more active weather pattern for the second half of the week. Temperatures will remain above normal through Wednesday but are expected to cool to below normal by the late week and into the weekend.
Forecasters indicate that a large and complex storm system will develop over the Midwest late in the week, potentially leading to the first measurable snowfall of the season in Western New York. The highest chance for wet snow will initially be at night and across higher terrain, with mixed precipitation and wet snow becoming more widespread as the weekend approaches. Lake enhancement could also play a role, particularly in areas southeast of the lakes, where several inches of wet snow are possible by late Saturday.
