Bulldogs Face Rebels in Must-Win Matchup

FRESNO, Calif. — The Fresno State Bulldogs (5-20, 1-13 MWC) will attempt to end a seven-game losing streak when they host the UNLV Rebels (13-12, 7-7 MWC) on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The game is set to tip off at 4:00 PM PT at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State is looking to turn their fortunes around after suffering three consecutive home losses, all decided by single digits. In their last outing, they fell 94-69 to Nevada, with Jasir Tremble leading the Bulldogs with 19 points.
On the other side, UNLV comes into the game off a solid performance, defeating Air Force 77-52. Jeremiah Cherry scored 15 points in that contest, showcasing the Rebels’ depth and efficiency.
This contest promises to be a battle with UNLV favored by 8.5 points and an over/under of 148.5. The Rebels aim to improve their scoring average of 70.7 points per game while the Bulldogs will be looking to exploit UNLV’s defensive weaknesses.
According to statistics, Fresno State currently ranks 222nd in points per game, averaging 72.8, while allowing 82.9 points, ranking 359th in college basketball. This defensive struggle could be pivotal, as the Bulldogs have not successfully contained their opponents in recent weeks.
Fresno State’s head coach praised his team’s efforts, believing better days lay ahead. “We have to focus on controlling the game and executing our plays,” he said before the matchup. “We know that wins are critical as we aim to build momentum heading into the last stretch of the season.”
The Bulldogs are led by Zaon Collins, who averages 12.6 points and 4.6 assists per game, but has struggled to lead the team in scoring during the recent losses. He is hopeful of a breakout performance against a Rebels team he knows well.
UNLV’s team features strong individual performances, particularly from Dedan Thomas Jr., who leads with 15.9 points per game. The Rebels also utilize a balanced attack, with significant contributions from Jaden Henley and Jeremiah Cherry. Both teams are aware of the history between them, as they honor the legacy of the late, great coach Jerry Tarkanian, who once coached both programs.
In their last meeting on Valentine’s Day the previous year, the Rebels edged the Bulldogs 87-77. The Rebels jumped to an early lead and maintained their advantage despite a late surge from Fresno State. Thomas led the scoring for UNLV, a trend he will hope to continue this Saturday.
