Zach Lavine Michael Porter Jr. Nba Trade

The Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets previously discussed a potential trade involving Zach LaVine and Michael Porter Jr., but those talks are currently “dormant,” according to ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst. The Nuggets had explored the possibility of swapping Porter for LaVine earlier this season, but no deal materialized, leaving both teams to reassess their options.

Denver, the reigning 2023 NBA champions, has struggled to meet expectations this season despite a 20-14 record, placing them fourth in the Western Conference. The team’s core, including three-time MVP Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Porter, has yet to replicate its championship form. Meanwhile, the Bulls, sitting at 17-19 and 10th in the Eastern Conference, have shown signs of improvement, winning four of their last five games.

LaVine, a two-time All-Star, has been a consistent trade candidate for years but remains in Chicago. He is averaging 33.3 points per game in his recent stretch, showcasing his scoring prowess. However, his hefty contract, including a $48.9 million player option for 2026-27, complicates potential trade scenarios.

Porter, on the other hand, is having a career-best season, averaging 19.1 points on 52.4% shooting. His recent performances, including 23.6 points per game over the last five contests, have made him a valuable asset for the Nuggets. Despite the mutual interest in a trade, financial and logistical hurdles have stalled negotiations.

The Bulls are reportedly hesitant to absorb Zeke Nnaji‘s four-year, $32 million contract, which Denver would likely include in any deal. Additionally, Chicago would need to involve a third team to offload Nnaji, further complicating the process. Internal concerns about how LaVine would fit alongside Murray on both ends of the court have also contributed to the stalled talks.

With the NBA trade deadline set for February 6, both teams have time to revisit discussions. However, for now, the status quo remains, leaving LaVine and Porter to continue their strong performances for their respective teams.
