Canadian U23 Talent Lucas Diaz Joins Cavalry Fc On Loan From Sporting Lisbon

Cavalry FC, the reigning regular season champions of the Canadian Premier League, have announced the acquisition of 21-year-old attacking midfielder Lucas Dias on loan from the prestigious Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon. The highly talented Toronto-born player brings a wealth of experience, having spent over a decade in top academies.

Lucas Dias began his journey at the academy of Sporting Toronto before being invited to join Sporting Lisbon’s academy in Portugal at the age of just 10. He signed his first professional contract with Sporting at 16 and has since made 49 appearances for the club at both the U19 and U23 levels, as well as playing for Sporting CP B. Dias has also represented Canada’s U23 national squad on four occasions.

With Dias joining the Cavalry FC roster, head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. expressed his excitement about having the attack-minded player on the team. The squad is already packed with attacking and midfield talent, including familiar faces like Sergio Camargo, Ali Musse, Willy Akio, Myer Bevan, Charlie Trafford, Jesse Daley, Shamit Shome, and Maël Henry. Additionally, the team has recently added new signings Lleyton Brooks, Tobias Warschewski, and Diego Gutierrez.

Lucas Dias expressed his enthusiasm about joining Cavalry FC, stating that he is thrilled to be part of the club and eager to contribute to their journey. Dias will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact as Cavalry FC kicks off their campaign in the Concacaf Champions Cup, where they will face MLS side Orlando SC in a two-legged tie, with the first match taking place at Starlight Stadium on Vancouver Island on February 21.
