Captain Tom's Daughter's Unauthorised Spa Demolished

A spa complex built by the daughter of beloved fundraiser Captain Tom Moore, Ms. Hannah Ingram-Moore, and her husband Colin in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, has been demolished following a dispute with the local council. The spa, initially intended to be the ‘Captain Tom Foundation Building,’ was constructed without proper authorization and in violation of building regulations.

Newly released aerial photographs depict the remnants of the once extravagant spa now reduced to a rectangular patch of mud. This drastic action was taken after Ms. Ingram-Moore and her husband failed to comply with orders to alter the unauthorised structure back to its approved plan.

While the couple had obtained permission to erect the designated ‘Captain Tom Foundation Building’ at their affluent residence, they went on to construct a more expansive edifice. The demolition process involved the meticulous removal of roof tiles, followed by the extraction of gym equipment and accolades from the facility.

Over the weekend, observers noted a significant void in the ground where the spa complex once stood as a crane meticulously disassembled the pool. Notable items, such as the ‘Sports Personality of the Year‘ award, belonging to Captain Tom, were seen being salvaged as part of the deconstruction.

Central Bedfordshire Council had previously served an enforcement notice to dismantle the unauthorized spa, a directive upheld after the family’s subsequent appeal was dismissed in November. The removal of the sauna and spa was mandated to be completed by the 7th of February this year.

Captain Tom Moore, renowned for his fundraising efforts that garnered close to £39 million for charities, earned international acclaim for his walk around his garden using a walking frame during the initial COVID lockdown in 2020. Following his passing in February 2021, numerous tributes honored his profound contributions.

While this incident unfolds, the ‘Captain Tom Foundation Building,’ now the subject of a Charity Commission investigation, faces scrutiny regarding its operations and independence from the Moore family. The repercussions of this episode serve as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to planning regulations and upholding the integrity of historic properties.
