Carrie Underwood is making a big return to the spotlight as a judge on ‘American Idol’! It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 20 years since she wowed audiences as a contestant and eventually won the show back in 2005.

Announced today, Underwood will be stepping into the judge’s chair, taking over for Katy Perry who has decided to leave the show after several successful seasons. The new season is set to kick off in spring 2025, and fans couldn’t be more excited!

As a former contestant who rose to fame, Carrie is bringing her unique perspective to the table. She’ll join seasoned judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, along with long-time host Ryan Seacrest, who has been by the show’s side since it began. This is a full circle moment for Underwood, who recalls how her journey began in her hometown of Checotah before being propelled into stardom.

In a heartfelt message about her time on the show, Underwood said, “I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show and I’m so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished since.” Her achievements are impressive, with eight Grammy Awards and numerous hit singles under her belt.

<p“There’s something incredibly special about this upcoming season, especially since it marks 20 years since Carrie won America’s hearts,” said Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group. He highlighted how Carrie’s journey resonates with fans who have watched her evolve from a contestant to a multi-award-winning superstar.

Auditions for the new season of ‘Idol’ are set to kick off on August 12, kicking off a nationwide search for the next big talent. With Carrie Underwood on the judging panel, this season promises to be unforgettable!
