Carson McCusker Set for MLB Debut with Twins After Injury Concerns

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — With Byron Buxton joining Carlos Correa on the 7-day concussion injured list, Triple-A St. Paul slugger Carson McCusker is expected to join the Minnesota Twins in Milwaukee on Sunday. This move comes as an opportunity for McCusker, who is poised to make his Major League Baseball debut.
Though the circumstances surrounding Buxton’s absence are unfortunate, McCusker’s call-up has long been anticipated. He has been dominating at the plate for the St. Paul Saints, showcasing some of the best statistics among minor league players. Standing at 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds, McCusker brings impressive power to the game.
This season, McCusker, who will turn 27 next week, is hitting .350 with 10 home runs, 11 doubles, and 36 RBIs over 38 games. His performance has him tied for the lead in home runs in the International League, while ranking third in both RBIs and OPS at 1.061. He has the potential to hit the ball over 450 feet when he connects, making him a formidable addition to the Twins lineup.
Originally undrafted out of Oklahoma State, McCusker played three seasons in independent league baseball with the Tri-City ValleyCats before signing a minor league deal with the Twins in 2023. His journey through Minnesota’s minor league system has been marked by consistent production, culminating in his call-up.
Buxton’s placement on the injured list is a significant setback for the player and the Twins, as he has played in 41 of the team’s 45 games this season. He leads the Twins in hits, runs, home runs, RBIs, and stolen bases, while also showing elite performance as a center fielder. With Willi Castro also dealing with an injury, the Twins find themselves in need of additional outfield depth.
Fans will be eager to see if McCusker is included in the starting lineup against the Brewers on Sunday.
