CBS Announces Cast for Blue Bloods Spinoff, Boston Blue

NEW YORK, NY — CBS is expanding its popular Blue Bloods universe with the upcoming spinoff, Boston Blue. The new show will continue the legacy of the Reagan family as it follows the character Danny Reagan, portrayed by Donnie Wahlberg, who takes on a new role in the Boston Police Department.

Wahlberg expressed his excitement in a March 2025 Instagram post, saying, “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue!” He emphasized the show would explore new narratives within the familiar framework established by Blue Bloods.

Alongside Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green will join the cast as Detective Lena Silver, who is the daughter of a prominent law enforcement family in Boston. “We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long,” Martin-Green stated, sharing her enthusiasm about the partnership with Wahlberg’s character.

Additionally, Ernie Hudson will portray Reverend Peters, Lena’s grandfather, who is a respected pastor in Boston. According to the character description, Reverend Peters is known for his welcoming nature and open-mindedness, with a strong commitment to his church community.

Maggie Lawson, another new addition, will play Superintendent Sarah Silver, who balances her duties in law enforcement with her family ties. Lawson expressed her gratitude for joining the team, stating, “Honored and excited to be a part of this family.”

As the Blue Bloods spinoff develops, questions remain whether former actors from the original show will make appearances. Tom Selleck, who played Frank Reagan, remains open to possibilities but has yet to confirm any involvement. In December 2024, he mentioned, “I’m open to suggestions, because I love Frank Reagan.”

Filming for Boston Blue is set to begin this summer, with a release expected later this year. Fans are eager to see how this new chapter connects with the events and characters of Blue Bloods.
