Ncis Origins 1990s Cast Characters

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — CBS is venturing into the past with its new series “NCIS: Origins,” a prequel to the long-running procedural franchise ‘NCIS.’ Set in the 1990s, the show will explore the origins of familiar characters from the franchise while addressing unresolved storylines that fans have been curious about for years.

Premiering on April 11, 2025, “NCIS: Origins” follows the Naval Investigative Service during a time when key figures were navigating personal and professional turmoil. The narrative aims to dissect the backstories of characters like Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his famed rules, shedding light on their formative experiences.

Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs in the original series, lends his voice as the narrator and makes guest appearances as the present-day Gibbs. Austin Stowell steps into the role of young Gibbs, while Robert Taylor portrays his father, Jackson Gibbs, who expresses concern for his son’s emotional state following family tragedies.

Other significant characters include Mike Franks, portrayed in his younger years by Kyle Schmid, and his partner Vera Strickland, played by Diany Rodriguez. This prequel not only introduces younger versions of these familiar faces but also brings in new characters like Lala Dominguez, played by Mariel Molino, who serves as Gibbs’ partner and potential love interest. Lala’s journey faces challenges, including workplace sexism and personal dilemmas.

The extensive cast also includes established characters such as FBI agent Tobias Fornell, with Lucas Dixon stepping in as his younger self. Joe Spano, who portrayed Fornell in the flagship series, lends his voice during key moments in the new series.

Season one is also set to explore the dynamic within the agency, featuring characters such as Mary Jo, the head secretary, and the forensic team managed by Chief Medical Examiner Témet Téngalkat. Notable characters also include the agency’s boss Cliff Wheeler and other agents like Randy Randolf and JJ Henneberry, who all contribute to solving intricate cases in each episode.

Despite recent setbacks with franchise spinoffs and cancellations, “NCIS: Origins” is poised to reinvigorate interest in the franchise by exploring its characters’ histories and facilitating potential crossover episodes. Fans have eagerly awaited this prequel, promising new storylines and a fresh perspective on beloved characters.

As CBS rolls out new content, the show’s success could hint at further expansions within the franchise, including anticipated sequels and other spin-offs that explore various timelines and characters.
