Cinco De Mayo Celebration Food And Drinks

AKRON, Ohio — As communities across the U.S. prepare for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, numerous restaurants in the Akron area are inviting locals to enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine. Cinco de Mayo, celebrated on May 5, commemorates the Mexican victory over French forces in the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Among the recommended spots is Mucho Bueno’s Mexican Grill & Cantina, which opened in Brunswick in 2006. Regular patron Susie Price appreciates the comfort of familiar tastes. “It’s fun to try new restaurants, but it’s always nice to return to the comfort of what you know,” she said.

Casa Del Mar, located on South Cleveland-Massillon Road in Norton, has been serving authentic dishes since 2013. Local reporter Mark Price noted, “This is some of the best Mexican food I’ve tasted in Summit County,” after enjoying a satisfying meal there.

In Stow, Amigos Taqueria opened its doors in 2022, focusing on recipes from the owners’ hometowns in Mexico. Gus Munoz and Alejandro Enriquez aim to bring authentic flavors to the community, with dishes derived from Munoz’s family’s taqueria.

Tito’s Mexican Grill in Fairlawn, which has been operating since 2011, features an extensive menu that has attracted more diners recently. Reporter Kerry Clawson explored the extensive offerings, including quesadillas and burritos, during a visit last August.

For street-style tacos, Town Tacos, located inside Barmacy in Akron’s Highland Square, has recently gained popularity. Owners Tyler Robinson and Nadine Gheith make a variety of tacos including options for steak, chicken, and tilapia.

Don Jose Mexican Cuisine opened last year in Akron, providing a menu based on the dishes from owner Carlos Hernandez’s home state of Michoacan, with a staggering 42 entrees.

La Fresa, known for its fresh, fruity frozen treats, offers unique popsicle flavors like tequila and bubblegum, while El Papa’s continues to serve popular dishes like birria tacos at its new Cuyahoga Falls location.

For those looking for Cinco de Mayo deals, Chipotle is hosting a game on Roblox, offering free burritos to the first 50,000 players who complete a quest. Other local restaurants, including Los Cabos in Akron, are providing special menus to celebrate the holiday.

As restaurants gear up for this festive occasion, nearly one in five Americans plan to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, according to recent research. From food and drink deals to family gatherings, this day remains significant for honoring Mexican culture and heritage.
