Celebrities Lose Homes as Wildfires Ravage Los Angeles Area
Celebrity chef Sandra Lee and other Hollywood stars have lost their homes as wildfires continue to devastate the Los Angeles area. Lee, 58, confirmed the destruction of her Malibu home in an emotional Instagram Reel on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. “I don’t have a home anymore. My house is gone,” she said, fighting back tears. “Thank God everybody is safe.”
The wildfires, which began on Tuesday, Jan. 7, have scorched over 11,000 acres and remain largely uncontained. The Palisades Fire, one of several blazes in the region, has forced widespread evacuations and claimed two lives, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Anthony C. Marrone.
Lee, known for her cookbooks and TV shows, shared her grief over losing her “slice of heaven” in Malibu. “I had my couple of months being really, really sad… and I have to say that my heart is a little too broken to be open yet,” she said in a December 2019 interview, reflecting on her emotional journey after purchasing the home following her split from former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Other celebrities, including Ricki Lake and Emily Procter, have also reported losing their homes. Lake described her Malibu property as her “dream home” and “heaven on earth,” where she and her husband wed three years ago. Procter shared a video of the fire’s destruction, confirming her home was among those lost.
Mandy Moore and Jamie Lee Curtis have evacuated but remain uncertain about the fate of their properties. The fires have prompted an outpouring of support for first responders and firefighters, who are working tirelessly to contain the blazes.
Lee urged her followers to keep the community in their prayers, emphasizing that the crisis is far from over. “This is not over—not even close,” she wrote on Instagram. The wildfires have left many residents grappling with the loss of their homes and cherished memories, while officials continue to assess the damage and provide updates on containment efforts.
