Thunderstorm Central Ohio Warning

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A thunderstorm system swept through central Ohio on Sunday afternoon, prompting a warning across several counties.

The National Weather Service issued a Level 1 risk for severe thunderstorms, indicating the potential for damaging wind gusts along with heavy rainfall. The storm began impacting the region late Sunday, bringing thunder and downpours.

According to meteorologists, thunderstorms that form in Ohio typically approach from the southwest, potentially producing winds exceeding 55 mph. These conditions create the risk of downbursts, which can cause damage similar to that of tornadoes.

“Take cover immediately if you are in a warning area,” urged local meteorologist Jordan Smith. He emphasized that strong storms might lead to flash flooding, especially in areas that have received little rain recently.

Residents are advised to remain alert during this weather event. Preparing for severe weather includes knowing where to seek shelter, such as innermost rooms on the lowest floor of a building, away from windows.

For continued updates, residents can check in with the 10 Weather Impact team, which is tracking the storms live on 10TV+.

Forecasters warn that the risk for severe weather will continue into Monday, with storms expected to graduate in severity throughout the week.
