International Firefighters Day Ceremony Laredo Texas

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – On Friday, May 2, the Laredo Fire Department held a ceremony at Fire Station 8 to honor International Firefighters Day. The event recognized fallen firefighters and highlighted the dedication of those still serving.

Sebastian Valero, a representative from the Laredo Fire Department, explained the hiring process for new candidates. “We are currently going through a hiring process, it’s pretty long,” he said. “You do a written exam, physical exam, psychological exams, and other exams you have to go through for the hiring process. It means a lot to be a firefighter; first and foremost, we’re here to help the community.”

Currently, there are 15 fire stations across the City of Laredo. The ceremony served as a reminder of the risks firefighters take daily to ensure public safety and the importance of community support.

On a global scale, Sunday, May 4, marks International Firefighters Day, which emphasizes the critical work that firefighters do every day. In Tucson, Fire Captain Jamie Sieminski discussed the day on 13 News, reminding viewers of the sacrifices made by first responders.

A parade featuring fire engines with flashing lights will take place on the islands of Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba, recognizing the day while considering National Remembrance Day events.
