Chandler Moore Maverick City Music Lawsuit

Atlanta, GA — Days before his sudden departure from Grammy-winning worship group Maverick City Music, co-founder Chandler Moore filed a lawsuit against the group’s CEO, Norman Gyamfi, alleging the theft of millions in royalties. The civil fraud lawsuit was filed by Moore’s attorneys in federal court on Oct. 1.

Moore announced on social media five days later that he would be focusing on his solo career. The lawsuit, which names several companies, including Maverick City Music and TRIBL Records, centers on Gyamfi, who is accused of abusing his position.

According to the complaint, Moore had previously relied heavily on Gyamfi’s advice regarding business and financial decisions. “Gyamfi, however, abused his power and the trust that Moore bestowed upon him,” the lawsuit states.

The allegations date back to 2021, when Gyamfi is said to have brokered the sale of the group’s music rights to Sony‘s distribution arm, The Orchard, without informing Moore of his commission. In 2022, Gyamfi purportedly directed payments of Moore’s songwriting royalties to Maverick City Music instead of to Moore himself, allegedly forging Moore’s signature on a co-publishing agreement.

The lawsuit claims Gyamfi withheld over $800,000 in royalties owed after Moore fulfilled his obligations under a contract signed in 2024, asserting that he was deprived of his earnings due to Gyamfi’s actions.

Moore’s claims include breach of contract, forgery, and conversion, seeking both financial damages and an order to void all contracts with the group. “Defendants’ greed, exploitation and misappropriation of Moore’s assets and intellectual property,” it said, “have deprived Plaintiffs of their contractually owed royalties.”

Sam Lipshie, one of Moore’s attorneys, expressed his commitment to helping Moore reclaim his talents and secure his rights. “Like many talented creators and performers, Chandler has faced situations where his trust and talent were taken advantage of,” said Lipshie.

Maverick City Music has not responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit. Moore’s departure comes alongside another member’s exit from the group, although she is not a party in the lawsuit.
