Chelsea Faces Injury Concerns Ahead of Wolves Clash
COBHAM, England — Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca revealed on Friday that four key players are under assessment ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge. The Blues aim to bounce back from a five-game winless streak and secure a league double over Wolves after their dominant 6-2 victory at Molineux earlier this season.
Maresca confirmed that Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernández, and Romeo Lavia missed Friday’s training session due to minor injuries sustained in recent matches. “We were without Cole today; he was not in the session,” Maresca stated during his pre-match press conference. “Levi, Enzo, and Romeo also missed training. We have three or four players who are doubts for Monday’s game because of the last game.”
Palmer suffered an ankle knock during the first half of Chelsea’s recent match against Bournemouth, while Fernández, Colwill, and Lavia are also nursing unspecified issues. Maresca added, “We don’t know if they’ll train tomorrow or in two days. It’s the same situation with Enzo, Levi, and Romeo.”
In more positive news, defender Trevoh Chalobah has returned to Chelsea after a loan spell at Crystal Palace and is available for Monday’s match. Maresca expressed confidence in Chalobah’s ability to reintegrate seamlessly into the squad. “It was quite an easy process to recall Chalobah,” Maresca said. “We have a few injuries, so we were looking for a solution, and we thought the best option would be to call back Trev. He knows the house better than me!”
Chelsea’s recent form has been underwhelming, with the team failing to win in their last five matches despite being favorites in each game. Nicolas Jackson‘s inconsistent finishing has been a particular concern, as the striker has gone five games without a goal despite taking 16 shots and posting an expected goals figure of 2.21.
Wolves, meanwhile, will look to capitalize on Chelsea’s struggles, with Matheus Cunha expected to return to their lineup. The visitors are considered a strong bet for a positive result, with odds favoring a Wolves double chance at 2/1.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on Monday night, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. local time.
