Chita Rivera Awards Set for May 19 in New York City

NEW YORK CITY, NY — The 2025 Chita Rivera Awards, which celebrate outstanding dance performances in film and theater, will take place on May 19 at the NYU Skirball Center. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Tony and Emmy winner Bebe Neuwirth.
Nominations for the awards have been announced, recognizing talents in both Broadway and film categories. Notable nominee Jonathan Groff is recognized for his performance in the Broadway show “Just in Time” as well as for the film “A Nice Indian Boy.” Groff expressed his excitement about the nominations, acknowledging the hard work of all involved in these productions.
The awards honor choreographers, dance ensembles, and featured dancers, making it a significant event in recognizing achievements in dance. This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Tony winner Ben Vereen.
The competition features various notable works including, in the Broadway section, nominees for Outstanding Choreography consisting of Joshua Bergasse’s “Smash” and Warren Carlyle’s “Pirates! The Penzance Musical.” In the film category, choreography from “A Nice Indian Boy” and “Emilia Perez” are among the highlighted nominations.
This event not only recognizes the achievements of seasoned artists but also serves as a platform for emerging talents. The dance company from The Dance Ground in Newtown, PA, comprising 23 youth dancers aged 11 to 18, will perform at the ceremony thanks to their artistry and commitment.
“To see our dancers take the stage at one of the most important nights in dance is a testament to their talent and heart,” said Liz Jovovich, Managing Director of The Dance Ground. “They represent the future of dance in America.”
The Chita Rivera Awards are named in honor of the legendary Broadway dancer, and this year promises to be a celebratory showcase of dance, choreography, and the vibrant community behind it.
