Coach Bob Dyce Responds to Fan Comments After Dramatic Tie with Roughriders
The Ottawa Redblacks had quite the night on Thursday, playing to a surprising 22-22 tie against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. But the real buzz isn’t just about the match; it’s about a heated exchange involving head coach Bob Dyce and what is reported to be a fan on the sidelines.
Dyce, not one to shy away from defending his team, has called for the league to look into the incident. It happened towards the end of the game following a wild series of events that left fans scratching their heads.
In a shocking moment, the Roughriders appeared to have secured a win with a 22-19 lead in the second overtime, recovering a fumble from the Redblacks. Just when it seemed over, the CFL command centre intervened, announcing a roughing the passer penalty, which brought the Redblacks back onto the field. They managed to tie the game with a last-minute field goal.
As chaos unfolded, Dyce overheard some comments from a fan that he found disrespectful and decided to address the situation. “I’m not going to let anybody talk to our players like that,” he said. “So, I asked who he was, and he didn’t answer.”
Meanwhile, the Redblacks are now 5-2-1 for the season, with starting quarterback Dru Brown injuring himself in the second quarter. Dustin Crum stepped in and led the team down the field for that tying kick.
Crum reflected on the moment, “I was in the locker room so I thought it was over. They came running in and told me they called roughing the passer, and that we’re playing. So I said, ‘Alright.’”
On the other side of the field, Roughriders quarterback Shea Patterson shared his thoughts, calling it “the craziest ending I’ve ever been a part of.” He praised his team for sticking together through the ups and downs of the game.
