Coastal Flooding West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Coastal flooding and dangerous surf conditions are anticipated for beachgoers and boaters starting today through the weekend. Onshore winds are set to increase, stirring up rough waters and life-threatening rip currents.

Water levels along the coast could rise 2 to 3 feet above normal due to astronomical high tides, leading to minor to moderate beach erosion especially near high tide. A Coastal Flood Watch is currently in effect.

Rain chances are also on the rise today through Friday, particularly along the coast. A cold front from the north is contributing to increasing moisture levels. A Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall is in play, meaning localized flooding is possible, especially in areas already saturated from recent rains.

Forecasts indicate some locations could experience 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, with isolated spots potentially receiving up to 4 inches. Storms today and tomorrow may produce gusty winds up to 40 mph and lightning, prompting outdoor enthusiasts to keep a close watch on weather updates.

The cold front is expected to pass over Central and South Florida by Friday night, ushering in cooler, drier air typical for October. High temperatures are anticipated to fall to the low 80s for Friday and Saturday, with nighttime lows dipping into the upper 60s.

As the front progresses and a low-pressure system forms off Florida’s east coast, winds will likely remain strong, with gusts hitting 30–35 mph along the coast. Wind Advisory levels may be reached in Volusia County by Friday afternoon.

By Sunday, as the low-pressure system moves away, residents can expect reduced rain chances and more seasonal weather, with highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the 60s.
