Coco Gauff Captures First Roland-Garros Title After Thrilling Final

Paris, France — American tennis player Coco Gauff achieved her first Roland-Garros title on Saturday, June 7, 2025, defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping final. Gauff secured the championship after a dramatic match that lasted 2 hours and 38 minutes, with scores of 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4.
This victory marks Gauff’s second Grand Slam title, having previously won the US Open in 2023, and it is the first time since Serena Williams in 2015 that an American woman has won in Paris.
At only 21 years old, this was Gauff’s second appearance in the Roland-Garros final. In 2022, she lost to Iga Swiatek, but this time Gauff displayed resilience, refusing to give up during the intense match. The final showcased a thrilling back-and-forth battle on court Philippe-Chatrier, with both players generating multiple break points—15 out of 34 played in total.
Despite her impressive play, Sabalenka struggled with her performance, accumulating 70 unforced errors, a record for the women’s tournament this year. Gauff’s ability to stay composed ultimately led to her victory.
This loss marks the second time Sabalenka has fallen in a major final in 2025. After losing to Madison Keys at the Australian Open earlier this year, Sabalenka demonstrated stronger play at the start of the match but could not maintain her momentum. Despite the setback, this final signifies Sabalenka’s best result at Roland-Garros, where she reached the final for the first time.
