South Carolina Snow Flurries February 2025

GREENVILLE, S.C. — South Carolina is bracing for a chilly day, with potential snow flurries expected in the Upstate region on February 20, 2025. Morning temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-30s, while north northwest winds, gusting up to 40 mph, will create wind chills that may feel significantly colder, dropping into the teens and lower.

As isolated snow showers linger before 8 a.m., forecasters predict a cloudy morning giving way to gradual clearing by afternoon. The National Weather Service has indicated a 20% chance of precipitation, primarily concentrated in the Upstate and mountainous areas. Highs in the mountains are expected to remain in the low 20s, while the Upstate could see temperatures peak at around 36 degrees.

“The winds today will make it feel much colder than the temperature suggests,” said a local meteorologist. “Wind chill factors could leave some parts of the Upstate feeling below freezing.”

Wind chill warnings are in effect, with conditions expected to feel like -5 to -10 degrees in the mountains and single digits for those in the Upstate overnight. A hard freeze is also anticipated tonight and Thursday night, prompting authorities to remind residents to protect their pipes.

The expected winter weather has the potential to create minor impacts on travel due to slick spots, particularly in areas that receive snow. “Drivers need to be cautious, especially on bridges and overpasses,” warned a traffic safety officer.

Looking ahead, the region is set to experience a warming trend over the weekend after this frigid bout. Forecasts predict that temperatures will rebound into the 50s, with highs potentially reaching the upper 60s by mid-next week. “A significant warmup is on the way, so residents just need to hang in there for a couple of days,” the meteorologist added.

As the weather stabilizes, residents are encouraged to stay updated on local forecasts and potential warnings through news outlets and weather services. Preparations like insulating outdoor pipes and providing shelters for pets are recommended to mitigate the impact of the severe cold.

This cold snap follows a pattern of unusually wintry weather affecting the Southeastern US, with localized flurries not being uncommon during this colder season.
