Cold Weather Advisory Issued Amid Subzero Wind Chill Warnings

LAPEER, Mich. — A Cold Weather Advisory is now in effect for Lapeer, Sanilac, and St. Clair counties starting tonight at 9 p.m. and lasting until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with wind chills expected to plummet as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to local meteorologists, individuals exposed to such cold conditions run the risk of frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. Clear skies are forecast overnight, but temperatures are expected to approach 0 degrees by Tuesday morning, bringing in harsh wind chills between -10 and -20 degrees.
“With wind chills that low, safety is a primary concern,” said a spokesperson from the local weather authority. “People should avoid prolonged exposure outdoors and dress in layers if they must go outside.”
The cold snap continues into Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and highs that will struggle to reach the mid to upper teens. Northwesterly winds at speeds of 5 to 10 mph will contribute to the biting cold, potentially keeping wind chills at or below zero, especially in the afternoon.
Heading into Wednesday, temperatures are expected to drop again, reaching near 0 degrees by morning. The wind chill could hover around -10 degrees early in the day, with highs once again in the teens. Increased cloud cover is also anticipated.
Later in the week, residents may see light snow showers from Wednesday night into Thursday. However, forecasters warn that snow accumulation is expected to be minimal, making it more of a nuisance than a significant weather event.
As the week progresses, a gradual warming trend is expected. By this upcoming weekend, forecasts suggest temperatures could finally reach the freezing mark, around 32 degrees on Sunday. This change is a welcome relief from the current conditions.
“It’s important to remain informed and prepared for these weather changes,” the spokesperson added. “Stay tuned to local forecasts for updates in case conditions shift.”
Tonight’s forecast indicates that snow showers will taper off, giving way to clearer skies and lows near 0 degrees. Wind chills will remain dangerously low, peaking at -20 degrees overnight, with winds primarily from the west at 5 to 10 mph.
Residents are encouraged to follow safety precautions and stay updated through local news outlets and social media for further advisories as the cold weather continues.
