Sauce Gardner Nfl Trade News

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — The Indianapolis Colts have made a major move just ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, acquiring star cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets. The deal involves sending two future first-round draft picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell to New York.

Reports confirm that the Colts will part with their 2026 and 2027 first-round selections to secure Gardner, who has been recognized as a two-time first-team All-Pro since entering the league. Gardner, who signed a four-year contract extension worth $120 million this summer, has been a standout defensive player since the Jets selected him fourth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

“New York it’s been real,” Gardner expressed in a heartfelt message on social media shortly after the trade became public.

Despite Gardner’s immense talent, the Jets have struggled this season, currently sitting at the bottom of the AFC East with a 1-7 record. New head coach Aaron Glenn’s squad has shown a significant decline, and Gardner’s recent absence due to a concussion did not help their cause.

In contrast, the Colts have been one of the league’s surprise teams, boasting a 7-2 record and holding the top position in the AFC standings. Gardner’s arrival bolsters a pass defense that has already shown promise, with the team ranking third in the league in interceptions.

Colts General Manager Chris Ballard, known for his conservative approach to trading, appears to be shifting gears in pursuit of playoff success. “We believe we have a chance to make a deep playoff run, and this move reflects that belief,” Ballard stated.

The Jets, meanwhile, are now in a position to revamp their roster with the extra first-round picks, allowing them greater flexibility in addressing their significant needs. This dramatic move signals a clear pivot for the franchise as they look toward the future.

With Gardner joining the Colts, he is expected to make an immediate impact, offering elite skills to a secondary that will aim for further improvement as the season progresses.
