The draw for the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup took place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in Miami, Florida, marking the beginning of the highly anticipated tournament. This year’s competition will feature 22 teams, including a strong contingent of 10 teams from Major League Soccer (MLS).
Among the MLS teams participating are Columbus Crew, LAFC, Colorado Rapids, Sporting Kansas City, Inter Miami, Vancouver Whitecaps, LA Galaxy, FC Cincinnati, Real Salt Lake, and the Seattle Sounders. Notably, Real Salt Lake returns to the CONCACAF Champions Cup after a decade-long absence.
The draw has set the stage for the first round, which will consist of two-legged, home-and-away series between the teams. FC Cincinnati, for example, will face FC Motagua of the Honduran Liga Nacional in the first round, spanning from February 4 to February 27. Other notable matchups include various teams from North and Central America competing in the same format.
Five teams have received a bye to the Round of 16: Club América (Mexico), LA Galaxy (USA), Columbus Crew (USA), LD Alajuelense (Costa Rica), and Cavalier FC (Jamaica). These teams will join the winners of the first round in the next phase of the competition.
The tournament will proceed with the Round of 16 from March 4-13, followed by the Quarterfinals from April 1-10, and the Semifinals from April 22-May 1. The final match, which will determine the champion, is scheduled for June 1 and will be a single-elimination game.
Pachuca, the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup winner, will be among the favorites to lift the trophy again. They are currently preparing for the Intercontinental Cup against Botafogo, the South American champions, highlighting their significant role in representing Mexico and the CONCACAF region.
This year’s tournament also marks a historic milestone for Haiti’s Real Hope FA, which will compete in the CONCACAF Champions Cup for the first time in its history. Founded in 2014, the team has quickly risen to the top division in Haiti and is eager to face major teams from Mexico or MLS).
