RICHMOND, Va. — Chilly weather is expected overnight as temperatures dip to the low to mid 40s. Some outlying areas could see lows in the mid and upper 30s. However, Monday brings sunshine and a warming trend with highs reaching the mid to upper 70s.

On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to climb even further, reaching into the low to mid 80s. According to meteorologists, unsettled weather returns Wednesday through Friday, bringing the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings.

“It will be more humid this week with highs in the mid and upper 80s,” said a local meteorologist. A cold front will move off the coast by Saturday morning, bringing cooler, drier air just in time for the weekend.

In neighboring Delmarva, Saturday morning will start off damp with showers and embedded thunderstorms expected. Rainfall totals may vary between a tenth to half an inch, possibly higher in local areas.

As the morning progresses, temperatures are predicted to climb into the 70s, while winds will strengthen, making it feel brisk at times. By early afternoon, more scattered showers and storms may develop.

While severe weather is not anticipated, a few storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Clearing is expected late Saturday evening as the cold front sweeps away.

As temperatures drop into the upper 40s and low 50s Saturday night, Sunday will bring mostly sunny skies but cooler conditions, with high temperatures struggling to reach the mid-60s inland.

By Sunday night into Monday morning, with mostly clear skies and lighter winds, temperatures may again fall into the low to mid-40s. Patchy frost could even be a factor in sheltered areas.

Looking ahead, allergy sufferers may find relief this weekend with rain suppressing pollen counts, while air quality remains good through Sunday thanks to the northwest breezes and dry air.
