Kevin Durant Basketball Trade News

San Antonio, Texas — Basketball analyst Bill Simmons has stirred speculation that a trade sending Kevin Durant to the San Antonio Spurs may already be finalized. Speaking on his podcast after Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, Simmons suggested that agreements might be in place, waiting for a formal announcement around the upcoming NBA Draft.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if KD to the Spurs is done already and they just haven’t announced it,” Simmons noted. He explained that the Phoenix Suns and Durant have been collaborating on figuring out a suitable new team, making the Spurs one of the favorites to land the star player.

With the impending expiration of Durant’s contract, the Spurs could find a more affordable option compared to other star players, like Giannis Antetokounmpo. Simmons pointed out that acquiring Durant would allow the Spurs to remain competitive while still keeping their top assets, such as the No. 2 pick in the draft.

Current estimates suggest that San Antonio’s trade package could include young talents like Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson, along with the No. 14 pick, likely targeting Rutgers guard Dylan Harper. Simmons emphasized that this potential deal would be much less costly compared to moving for Antetokounmpo, who could demand a higher price.

If the trade goes through, it would complement the Spurs’ growing core, which includes standout rookie Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox, who joined the team during the last season’s trade deadline.

As of now, Simmons’ claims remain speculative without confirmation from verified sources within the NBA. However, the composition of the Spurs roster and their draft positions give them the flexibility to pursue Durant, as the draft approaches on June 25.
