North Carolina Courage Vs Orlando Pride Match Preview

CARY, N.C. (May 9, 2025) — The North Carolina Courage are ready to host the Orlando Pride this Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. ET at First Horizon Stadium in WakeMed Soccer Park. This match features the Courage, currently riding a two-match winning streak, against the second-place Pride, who are looking to bounce back from a recent loss.

The Courage achieved victories over the league-leading Kansas City Current and the Utah Royals, enhancing their record to 2 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws. Head Coach Sean Nahas implemented a tactical shift to a 3-4-3 formation, which he believes has allowed key players Ryan Williams and Ashley Sanchez to thrive. Williams scored and assisted during a win against Kansas City, while Sanchez has netted goals in consecutive games.

Maycee Bell has shone defensively, triumphing in every duel during recent matches while effectively marking the reigning league MVP, Temwa Chawinga. The Courage’s defensive strategy has improved, allowing only nine goals this season, despite most of them being from top-tier offensive teams.

On the other hand, the Orlando Pride, reigning NWSL Shield Winners, hold a record of 5 wins, 2 losses, sitting at 15 points. However, they faced setbacks with recent losses against the Portland Thorns, 1-0, despite leading the NWSL in goals scored this season with 14.

Pride forwards Barbara Banda and Marta have been crucial, scoring four and three goals, respectively, while Marta leads the league with 15 chances created. Head Coach Seb Hines aims to overcome the challenges posed by the Courage’s strong home advantage, acknowledging the difficulties of playing in Cary.

The match marks the first of two encounters between the Pride and Courage this season, with the return fixture scheduled for September 19. This rivalry has been intense, with the Courage winning 10 times and the Pride winning six of their previous meetings.

Fans can expect a thrilling encounter as both teams seek to solidify their standings in the competitive NWSL landscape. The Courage are eager to utilize the home field advantage while the Pride strive to rediscover their scoring touch and maintain their pressure at the top of the table.

“It’s always a difficult place to play,” Hines remarked. “We need to find solutions against a well-organized team that has discovered their form recently. This match is critical for us.” The Courage face the prospect of building on their recent successes, while the Pride aim to return to their winning ways.
