Cowboys and Amari Cooper Eye Reunion for 2025 Season

Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Amari Cooper

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are eyeing a potential reunion with former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper, according to reports from ESPN. The interest comes as owner Jerry Jones promised substantive trades ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, though few movements have occurred thus far.

The Cowboys are currently focused on negotiating a contract extension for star pass rusher Micah Parsons, which may impact their budget for player additions. With Cooper currently a free agent, his experience and history with the team could provide the Cowboys the receiving help they need.

Cooper, 30, has had a quiet free agency period since leaving the Cleveland Browns. His production declined in the 2024 season, finishing with career-low stats: only 44 catches, 547 yards, and four touchdowns. Despite this, the Cowboys might be looking for another option opposite rising star CeeDee Lamb, especially after veteran Noah Brown‘s departure in free agency.

From 2019 to 2021, Cooper had some of his most successful seasons with the Cowboys, exceeding 1,100 receiving yards in two of those years. The team traded for him in 2018, and he had an impactful tenure in Dallas, contributing to their playoff runs. Since then, he spent time with both the Browns and the Buffalo Bills.

As the Cowboys maintain roughly $34.5 million in salary cap space, a deal for Cooper could be feasible, provided he doesn’t demand a hefty contract. The dynamics of the Cowboys’ offseason approach remain to be seen as they negotiate with Parsons and seek to bolster their receiving corps.

With no wide receiver additions made during the draft, the potential return of Cooper could align with the Cowboys’ strategy to create a more balanced offense heading into the upcoming season.
