Crabapple Fire Sparks Evacuations Near Fredericksburg, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — A large wildfire known as the Crabapple fire ignited Saturday afternoon in Gillespie County, forcing evacuations and prompting a rapid response from local fire departments and the Texas A&M Forest Service.
The blaze began around 1 p.m. in the 8700 block of Lower Crabapple Road, approximately five miles north of Fredericksburg. As of 3:10 p.m., officials confirmed that the fire has grown to 400 acres and remains 0% contained. Firefighters are facing challenges due to strong winds and dry conditions.
In light of the rapidly changing situation, Fredericksburg Fire EMS began evacuating residents in the vicinity. For those displaced by the fire, a shelter has been established at Faith Baptist Church located at 3022 N. State Highway 16 in Fredericksburg.
Officials from the Texas A&M Forest Service reported that air support was dispatched to aid ground crews in their firefighting efforts. “We are working diligently to protect life and property,” said an officer with the Texas A&M Forest Service. “We ask residents to stay away from the area to ensure safety for both evacuees and firefighters.”
