Toronto Crane Collapse October 2024

A crane collapse took place in Toronto‘s Leaside neighborhood on Thursday afternoon, bringing emergency services to the scene at 100 Vanderhoof Avenue, near the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive. The incident was reported just after 3 p.m., according to Toronto Fire Services.

Fire officials disclosed that the crane, positioned on the seventh storey of the building under construction, collapsed onto the fourth storey. Remarkably, all workers have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported, as confirmed by the emergency services.

Toronto Fire Services further assured that the structural integrity of the partly constructed building remains intact, suggesting that the collapse did not compromise the overall stability of the structure.

The Toronto Police Service has stated that the crane’s arm appeared to have crumpled over the top of the building, with the end hanging over, as seen in CP24 chopper footage. However, specific details about how the crane collapsed have not been disclosed yet.

Amidst safety concerns and ongoing investigations, authorities have closed Vanderhoof Avenue between Laird Drive and Brentcliffe Road. The police are advising drivers to expect delays in the area and consider alternate routes to ease traffic congestion.
