Cris Carter Critiques Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft Preparation

Green Bay, WI
Cris Carter, a Hall of Fame wide receiver, has spoken out about Shedeur Sanders’ preparations for the 2025 NFL Draft, suggesting that the young quarterback is to blame for his fifth-round selection. In a recent interview, Carter emphasized that Sanders, who was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, might have focused too much on his image rather than proving his talent to teams.
“You’re going for a job interview,” Carter said, referring to the draft process. “For his job interview, he was so concerned about what his outfit was, his necklace was over a hundred grand. He hadn’t even convinced people that you’re the face of our franchise.”
Carter went on to explain that teams viewed Sanders as someone they would be better off passing on, even if they had less talent, which significantly impacted his draft position. Five quarterbacks were taken before Sanders, a fact Carter considers indicative of his draft stock misalignment.
<p“He threw away at least 30 to 50 million dollars,” Carter remarked. He also criticized Sanders' father, Deion Sanders, for possibly influencing the young quarterback’s expectations and decisions during the draft process. “They overplayed their hand,” Carter said, highlighting that they may have wrongly limited potential teams interested in Shedeur.
While Carter voiced strong opinions on Sanders’ draft experience, Pilar Sanders, Shedeur’s mother, remains optimistic about her son’s future. She expressed eagerness for the NFL Draft starting on April 24 in Green Bay. Pilar, a health and wellness creator, has been a steadfast supporter of her children, including Shilo and Shelomi Sanders.
Pilar described her pride in having spent two years in Boulder, cheering on her sons during their college football seasons at the University of Colorado. “What an honor and a privilege,” she shared on Instagram. “I’m always around, trust me, in every area.”
As Shedeur Sanders continues to navigate his professional journey, analysts remain uncertain about where he will land in the draft. Some speculate he might join the New York Giants after a favorable workout last week. Meanwhile, other prospects in the draft, such as Desmond Watson, are also making headlines. Watson set a record as the heaviest player in NFL history at 464 pounds. Despite not receiving a combine invite, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a solid pro day performance.
Desmond Watson showcased impressive athleticism, completing 36 bench press reps and performing a 5.93-second 40-yard dash. His journey highlights the varied paths players take towards achieving their NFL dreams.
