Cruzeiro Football Team Training Injury

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil — Cruzeiro‘s medical department has raised concerns over a growing injury list, with midfielder Japa suffering a significant thigh tendon injury during training at Toca da Raposa. The team, currently without a head coach, prepares for a critical Campeonato Mineiro match against Itabirito.

Japa’s injury, described as a ‘serious left thigh tendon issue,’ occurred during routine training sessions. The club has announced that further medical evaluations will determine whether the player requires surgery or can recover through conservative treatment. This setback comes as Japa has already seen limited playing time this season.

Adding to the team’s woes, left-back Marlon has been ruled out of the upcoming game due to tonsillitis. His replacement, Kauã Prates from the under-20 squad, is set to make his debut. Meanwhile, forward Kaio Jorge continues his individualized recovery plan following his first appearance of the season last Saturday.

Interim coach Wesley Carvalho faces the challenge of fielding a competitive team amidst these setbacks. Despite the turmoil, Cruzeiro leads Group C in the Campeonato Mineiro with four points, following a recent 1-1 draw with Betim.

The match against Itabirito is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. local time at the Estádio Independência in Belo Horizonte. The game will be broadcast on Premiere and streamed on GloboPlay for subscribers.
