Cubs, Dodgers, Braves Seek Wins on Monday, June 9

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — It’s Monday, June 9, and the Chicago Cubs (40-25) face off against the Philadelphia Phillies (37-28) at Citizens Bank Park. Matthew Boyd will take the mound for the Cubs, while Zack Wheeler is expected to pitch for the Phillies.
Chicago enters the game after losing two of three against the Detroit Tigers, including a 4-0 shutout yesterday. Dansby Swanson was among the few highlights, recording two of Chicago’s four hits. On the other hand, Philadelphia comes off a tough weekend against the Pirates, where they lost three consecutive one-run games in Pittsburgh.
The Cubs hold a record of 4-3 in June, while the Phillies have struggled, losing five straight and six of their last seven games this month. Both teams are looking to turn around their fortunes.
In Los Angeles, the Dodgers (39-27) are set to begin a series against the San Diego Padres (37-27). This matchup is a rematch from the National League Division Series, where the Dodgers eliminated the Padres last season. Dustin May will pitch for the Dodgers, while Nick Pivetta takes the mound for San Diego.
Despite leading the National League, the Dodgers have been inconsistent lately, going .500 in their last ten games. In contrast, the Padres arrive with a 6-4 record over their last ten, closing the gap to just one game behind Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves (27-37) will take on the Milwaukee Brewers (35-31). Chris Sale is expected to pitch for Atlanta against Aaron Civale of Milwaukee. The Brewers recently faced a setback, going 2-3 in their last five games after a prior eight-game winning streak.
Atlanta, however, is on a seven-game losing streak and has dropped eight of their last nine games, marking their sixth consecutive series loss. Both teams are eager for victories as the season progresses.
