Cuiabá Airport Expands Routes, Adds Direct Flights to Key Brazilian Cities
CUIABÁ, Brazil — The Marechal Rondon International Airport in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, is set to expand its flight routes, adding direct connections to São José do Rio Preto, Maceió, and Porto Velho, officials announced Tuesday. The expansion, spearheaded by the State Secretariat of Economic Development, will increase the airport’s destinations from 15 to 19 starting in February.
The new routes include direct flights to Porto Velho, Rondônia, and São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, operated by Azul Linhas Aéreas. These flights, previously seasonal, will now operate weekly, with departures on Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, a direct route to Maceió, Alagoas, will launch on March 15, also operated by Azul.
Gol Linhas Aéreas will introduce a direct flight from Cuiabá to Rio de Janeiro‘s Galeão International Airport three times a week starting in April. The airline also plans to increase weekly flights to Brasília from seven to ten and maintain seven weekly flights to São Paulo’s Congonhas Airport.
Marco Antônio Migliorini, CEO of Centro-Oeste Airports (COA), emphasized the airport’s readiness to handle increased traffic. “We’ve invested over R$280 million in expanding the passenger terminal and improving facilities,” Migliorini said. “These new routes and increased frequencies reflect Cuiabá’s growing importance in Brazil’s aviation network.”
The airport, which currently handles approximately 2,254 flights monthly, is also authorized for international flights, with officials planning further discussions to expand connections to other countries.
