Dallas Wings Set to Open Season Against Minnesota Lynx

Arlington, TX (May 15, 2025) – The Dallas Wings are ready to kick off their 2025 season at College Park Center on Friday, May 16, as they host the Minnesota Lynx. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on ION, with streaming available on WNBA League Pass. Ron Thulin, Fran Harris, and former Wings guard Tiffany Bias Patmon will provide commentary.
Dallas announced its official roster for the 2025 season following the conclusion of their preseason matches, which saw the team split their two games. They lost to the Las Vegas Aces on the road but secured a commanding 119-52 victory over the Toyota Antelopes at home on May 10.
This offseason brought significant changes for the Wings, impacting their front office, coaching staff, and player roster. They hired WNBA veteran Curt Miller as their Executive Vice President and General Manager, who then appointed Chris Koclanes as the new Head Coach.
Miller made headlines during the free agency period, bringing in noteworthy players like DiJonai Carrington, NaLyssa Smith, Myisha Hines-Allen, and Ty Harris to complement returning stars Arike Ogunbowale, Teaira McCowan, and Maddy Siegrist, who had strong seasons in 2024.
Additionally, the Wings made a splash at the 2025 WNBA Draft, selecting No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers from UConn. They also added Aziaha James from North Carolina State and JJ Quinerly from West Virginia in the draft.
As for the Lynx, they are coming off a successful season, including a trip to the WNBA Finals and a Commissioner’s Cup title. They aim to avenge their loss in the Finals to the New York Liberty. Led by MVP candidate Napheesa Collier, the Lynx return most of their key players from last season, although forward Dorka Juhasz will not be playing this year.
The Lynx are favored in this matchup, though the new-look Wings pose a significant challenge. Notably, Satou Sabally will not be part of the Wings roster, yet the acquisition of Bueckers and other offseason signings could prove beneficial.
Bueckers, known for her outstanding collegiate performance where she averaged 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, showed promise in the preseason. She accumulated 10 points, four rebounds, and one assist in her debut, followed by 15 points, five rebounds, and six assists in her second game.
The Wings are aiming to improve on their disappointing 2024 campaign, which saw them struggle significantly throughout the season. With the new roster, fans are hopeful for a turnaround.
Despite the excitement surrounding the Wings, the Lynx’s continuity and strong roster depth could give them the edge. Last season, Minnesota excelled on the road and maintained top records offensively and defensively.
As the season opener approaches, the Wings look to make a statement against the experienced Lynx, setting the stage for an exciting matchup.
