Damon Wayans Reflects on ‘Poppa’s House’ Cancellation with Gratitude

LOS ANGELES, CA — Damon Wayans has expressed his gratitude following the cancellation of his CBS sitcom “Poppa's House.” The decision was announced on April 22, 2025, after the show aired for just one season. Wayans shared his feelings in a heartfelt Instagram post, stating he is walking away with “deep gratitude” earlier this week.
“Creating ‘Poppa’s House’ was such a beautiful journey,” Wayans wrote. He thanked everyone involved in the show, saying, “My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made ‘Poppa’s House’ such a meaningful experience.” He highlighted the dedication of the cast, crew, writers, and producers, noting, “You brought so much heart, soul, and joy to every scene.”
Wayans shared special recognition for his son, Damon Wayans Jr., who starred alongside him. He said, “Working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life.” Wayans continued to express his appreciation for the love and support from his family, who contributed to the series in various roles.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, “Poppa’s House” was seen as a heartfelt family comedy featuring the lives of a father and son navigating life’s challenges. The show starred Wayans Sr. as a talk radio host dealing with workplace dynamics while parenting his adult son, portrayed by Wayans Jr. The primary cast also included Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson.
Industry reports noted that the series struggled to maintain viewership, ultimately becoming CBS’ least-watched scripted program of the 2024-2025 season. As part of its restructuring for 2025-2026, CBS has decided not to renew the show.
Wayans concluded his post with gratitude to the audience, stating, “To everyone who watched, supported, and believed in us, thank you. Your love means everything. On to the next chapter, with nothing but love in my heart.” The show aired its final episode on April 28, 2025, now marking both the season and series finale.
