Damon Wayans Jr. Stars Alongside Father in New Comedy Series ‘Poppa’s House’
Damon Wayans Jr. is set to star in the new comedy series ‘Poppa's House‘ alongside his father, Damon Wayans. This family-centric show, which premiered on CBS, marks another collaboration in the long line of family projects for the Wayans family. In ‘Poppa’s House,’ Damon Wayans plays a dad with a strong personality, while his son, Damon Wayans Jr., portrays his on-screen son, Junior.
The chemistry between the father-son duo is natural and evident, with both actors aiming to make each other laugh during filming. “That’s the ultimate goal really, is to make people who you respect laugh,” said Damon Wayans Jr. “If I can get my dad to break in a scene, that just gives me more energy for the next take.”.
Damon Wayans Jr.’s character, Junior, is partly inspired by his brother Michael Wayans. He described Michael as “my best bud” and noted that his character’s interactions with Poppa are similar to how Michael interacts with their father in real life.
The show is part of a legacy of comedy that Damon Wayans has built over nearly four decades. From his early days doing standup comedy and delivering mail at Paramount Studios, to his iconic roles in ‘Major Payne’ and ‘In Living Color,’ Damon Wayans has established himself as a versatile and enduring figure in the entertainment industry.
The family dynamic is a recurring theme in Damon Wayans’ career, having worked extensively with his siblings Keenan, Shawn, Marlon, and Kim, as well as other family members. This latest project continues that tradition, highlighting the close and comedic relationship between Damon Wayans and his son.
