MADRID, Spain – Daniil Medvedev is emphasizing his need for privacy, revealing he is not interested in creating another tennis documentary. The 2021 US Open champion made his remarks during the Mutua Madrid Open, following the release of Carlos Alcaraz‘s new Netflix series, My Way.

While Medvedev enjoyed playing tennis, he expressed discomfort with the kind of constant attention required to film such projects. He previously participated in the Netflix series Break Point but criticized his portrayal, noting the series was not an accurate representation of his life.

“The series is not real life,” Medvedev said of his experience. He referred to his editing as a “villain edit,” which has made him cautious about future media appearances. “I saw, for example, how Carlos’s one was done, you know, and, damn, it’s cameras all over you, all over the day. That’s not me.”

Medvedev discussed balancing his public persona with private life. He often enjoys signing autographs and taking pictures with fans but draws a line when it comes to his personal time. “When I’m having dinner, when I’m with my family, I don’t,” he stated. “I can be pretty rude with my personal space.”

Carlos Alcaraz’s series debuted recently and documents his 2024 season with insights from his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and tennis legends like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Medvedev expressed concern over how such projects could intrude into family life. “If I give it to the documentary I’m going to get nuts,” he explained. “They want to film your daughters, they want to film your wife.”

He noted that some fans might want to know every detail about a public figure’s life, leading him to safeguard some aspects for himself. “You need to keep something for yourself, otherwise, they take all your life away,” he said. Despite his firm stance, Medvedev remarked, “I never say never,” suggesting that future opportunities might arise.

As Medvedev prepares for the upcoming matches at the Caja Magica this week, he remains focused on his performance on the court rather than additional media exposure.
