28 Years Later Zombie Horror Trailer

NEW YORK, NY — The highly anticipated trailer for Danny Boyle’s sequel, 28 Years Later, will be released online at 3 a.m. ET on Thursday, April 17, 2025. This new installment follows two cult classics, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, capturing fans’ attention with its chilling glimpses into the post-apocalyptic world.

In a recently released teaser, viewers are given a sneak peek of the horrors once again unleashed by the rage virus. The sequel promises to maintain the intense atmosphere that made its predecessors memorable while setting the stage for a new trilogy. The film is set to hit theaters on June 20, 2025, with a follow-up titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple already scheduled for release on January 16, 2026, and directed by Nia DaCosta.

According to the film’s official synopsis, nearly three decades have passed since the initial outbreak of the rage virus, which left the UK in a harsh quarantine. The story centers around a group of survivors on a small island connected to the mainland by a heavily fortified causeway. The plot unfolds as one member leaves the island to embark on a dangerous mission into the heart of the mainland, where he encounters terrifying mutations and secrets that challenge their very existence.

The film boasts a talented cast including Jack O'Connell, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, the latter of whom plays a crucial role as Dr. Kelson. Although original star Cillian Murphy will not appear in 28 Years Later, he is involved as an executive producer, sparking excitement among fans eager to see if his character, Jim, will return in future installments.

“He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line,” producer Andrew Macdonald said. The anticipation has been fueled by the fact that the marketing for the new film has already shown success, with the first trailer garnering over 60.2 million views globally, breaking records as the most-watched horror trailer of 2024.

With production budgets estimated at around $75 million for each film in the trilogy, Sony is clearly committed to high-quality production, aiming to replicate the impact of the original films that forever transformed the zombie genre. Boyle’s directorial return is particularly notable; he directed 28 Days Later, which was instrumental in re-envisioning zombie horror with its fast-paced, terrifying imagery.

The new teaser adds to the mounting excitement, showcasing quick flashes of footage that hint at the nightmarish scenarios awaiting audiences. Enhanced by a haunting rendition of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Boots,” the teaser has captivated fans anxious for more information about this gripping return to drama.

As the film’s release approaches, the burgeoning horror community is also buzzing about another anticipated release: Escaping Death: The Unauthorized Story Behind the Final Destination Movies. This extensive book features over 50 exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes insights, compiling stories from the franchise’s cast and crew.

With a thrilling year ahead for horror enthusiasts, 28 Years Later promises to deliver the heart-stopping excitement that has become a hallmark of its predecessors. As the clock ticks closer to the trailer’s premiere, fans are left to ponder what horrors and hopes await the survivors in this re-imagined world.
