Danny Jansen Baseball Or Danny Jansen Set To Make Major League History As First Player To Appear For Both Teams In A Suspended Game

In a remarkable turn of events, Danny Jansen is poised to become the first player in Major League Baseball history to appear in a game for both teams involved in a suspended match. Jansen will be catching for the Boston Red Sox on Monday when they resume their previously suspended game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The game in question was initially suspended on June 26 due to inclement weather conditions in the second inning. At the time, Jansen was positioned to bat for the Blue Jays. Following a trade that occurred on July 27, he found himself on the opposite side of the field.

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Jansen’s role in the game, expressing excitement about the historic milestone. “He’s catching. Let’s make history,” Cora stated after Friday’s game against Arizona, where the Red Sox experienced a 12-2 defeat.

Jansen, who joined the Red Sox just a few weeks ago, expressed surprise at the uniqueness of the situation. “I didn’t think I would be the first,” he remarked, highlighting the rarity of such occurrences in the sport. With the game carrying significant historical weight, Jansen is grateful for the opportunity.

Before the trade, Reese McGuire served as the catcher for the suspended game. Following the transaction, McGuire was assigned to Triple-A Worcester. Since joining the Red Sox, Jansen has played in 13 games, recording two home runs and maintaining a batting average of .257.

Originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2013 draft, Jansen made his MLB debut on August 13, 2018. Over the course of his career, he has participated in 484 games and accrued 73 home runs, with a batting average of .222.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman praised Jansen’s character, stating, “The biggest thing you want in a catcher is a bulldog back there, and that’s Danny through and through.” This reflects Jansen’s reputation in baseball as a dedicated and gritty player, showcasing his commitment to the game.
