ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills have officially re-signed running back Darrynton Evans for the 2025 NFL season, the player’s agents announced on Tuesday. This marks Evans’ third collaboration with the Bills after spending time with the team in 2023 and 2024 without seeing game action.

While Evans has been with the Bills since training camp in 2023 and on the practice squad last year, he has not yet appeared in a regular season game donning a Bills jersey. The running back has earlier spent time on NFL rosters for the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans, accumulating a total of 65 carries for 249 yards and one touchdown over 24 games.

General manager Brandon Beane has been active this free agency period, securing agreements with notable players including wide receiver Josh Palmer and defensive lineman Michael Hoecht, adding depth ahead of the new season. The Bills entered free agency on the heels of extending contracts for several key players, including quarterback Josh Allen, who recently inked a six-year deal worth $330 million, the largest in NFL history.

Despite the re-signing of Evans, the ongoing fate of running back Ty Johnson remains uncertain. The Bills may have set their sights on Evans as a cost-effective option for a backup role, potentially signaling that Johnson’s price tag exceeds the team’s budget. Evans’s adaptability as a third-string back could be valuable, even though he has not solidified a substantial role in previous seasons.

Evans was originally selected by the Titans in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft but has struggled to establish himself in the league. The Bills hope he can contribute effectively behind starter James Cook, who is also in discussions regarding a contract extension. With a competitive AFC East landscape shaping up, the Bills aim to bolster their roster efficiently.

As the free agency period continues, the Bills will look to navigate the market strategically as they seek to maintain their status among the AFC’s elite teams. Bills fans are eager to see how the roster will shape up before the upcoming season as Beane evaluates potential signings and re-signings, a process that could alter the team’s competitiveness heading into 2025.
