David Corenswet Signs Pro-Palestine Film Workers Pledge
DUBAI: American actor David Corenswet, recognized for his role in James Gunn‘s upcoming film “Superman,” has signed the “Film Workers for Palestine” pledge, joining a growing number of Hollywood figures who express support for the Palestinian cause.
The pledge, initiated on September 8, 2025, calls on entertainment industry members to refrain from collaborating with Israeli film institutions accused of involvement in “genocide and apartheid.” Well-known actors including Mark Ruffalo, Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Tilda Swinton, Riz Ahmed, and Javier Bardem are among the signatories.
“As filmmakers, actors, film industry workers, and institutions, we recognize the power of cinema to shape perceptions,” the statement issued with the pledge says. “In this urgent moment of crisis, where many of our governments are enabling the carnage in Gaza, we must do everything we can to address complicity in that unrelenting horror.”
Other signers include filmmakers Ava DuVernay, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Joshua Oppenheimer. The pledge emphasizes that members will not work with institutions believed to be complicit, which includes film festivals, broadcasters, and production companies that whitewash or otherwise justify violent actions against Palestinians.
This initiative has sparked significant discussion within Hollywood, coinciding with ongoing tensions in Gaza. Over 1,800 individuals from the industry have endorsed the pledge as of now.
Corenswet’s action has drawn mixed responses online, with supporters dubbing him the “real Superman” for taking a stance that aligns with his character’s heroic values.
