Del Taco Closes All Colorado Locations, Leaving Fans Disheartened

GREELEY, Colo. — Del Taco, a popular Mexican fast food chain, shut down all its locations across Colorado on February 27, 2025, leaving fans of the franchise searching for alternatives. The abrupt closure affects 19 restaurants in cities including Greeley, Lone Tree, Colorado Springs, Aurora, and Firestone.
Signs posted at the restaurants indicated that the closures are effective immediately and noted, “We regret to inform you that effective today 2/27/25, all Colorado Del Taco locations are closed until further notice.” The signs also expressed gratitude to patrons for their support over the years, stating, “We thank you for your patronage, the memories we have created together, and wish you well.”
While the signs did not explicitly confirm permanent closure, the message suggests that Del Taco may not return to the Colorado market. As of now, the company has not provided information regarding the reasons for its rapid exit.
This development echoes last summer’s closure of multiple Taco John’s locations, which subsequently transformed into new eateries. Recently, businesses such as El Diablo Taco have expanded, successfully opening a brick-and-mortar location in Loveland. The booming restaurant scene in Colorado has left fans hopeful for new dining options.
In addition to the closure in Colorado, the Del Taco located near Vince Genna Stadium in Bend, Oregon, also closed recently. A sign reading “Permanently Closed” was spotted in its window, as workers began removing signage and decorative elements from the building.
Burgerville, a regional chain based in the Northwest, had plans to open a location at the Bend site, but no official announcement has been made yet. Last month, a posting on Burgerville’s website hinted at this location, but it was soon retracted as a mistake by a third-party partner.
Jacob Larsen, the communications manager for the City of Bend, confirmed there are currently no active building or planning permit applications for that site, and no business licenses have been filed. Burgerville has opened 39 locations across the Northwest since its founding in 1961, with most situated in the Portland-Vancouver area. The future of the Bend site remains uncertain as Burgerville continues to hire staff but has not confirmed any details.
