Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Founders Day Celebration

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is celebrating its 112th Founder’s Day with a series of events throughout January. The sorority, which has been part of Augusta’s legacy since 1978, is hosting activities including a mental health summit, a Delta-only event, and a major fundraiser called A Winter White Dream of Crimson and Cream on January 18.

“We promote literacy and there are other activities that we’ve done to include focus on social action,” said Past President Kim Gaines. “We also have a Watson Brown essay workshop and we would love for your viewers who are seniors in either Richmond or Burke County to take advantage of that.”

The fundraiser, which supports the chapter’s youth programs in Richmond and Burke counties, will feature dinner and community engagement. “This is a grand event that we host every year and it’s for the community,” said Fundraising Committee Chair Shakayla Dukes. “We will be serving dinner. So those of you that want to come out please come out and support our youth initiatives.”

Meanwhile, in MILWAUKEE, WI, the Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter is hosting its annual Founders Day celebration, “Conversation on the Crimson Couch: A Call to Action,” on February 1, 2025. The event will feature U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett as the keynote speaker and includes a luncheon, networking, and vendor opportunities.

Founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 women at Howard University, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has grown to over 300,000 members worldwide. The Milwaukee chapter is also collecting donations of clothes, coats, shoes, and accessories for the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative (MHVI) until January 31, 2024.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. focuses on academic excellence, scholarships, and community service through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, which includes economic development, educational development, international awareness, physical and mental health, and political awareness.
