Denver Weather Hard Freeze October 2024

Denver and northern Colorado are preparing for the coldest temperatures of the season so far, with a hard freeze expected late Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. A significant drop in temperatures will follow a light rain-snow mix anticipated in the urban corridor on Wednesday morning. This weather system is triggering winter weather advisories for Colorado’s higher elevations.

According to Denver7 weather forecaster Katie LaSalle, the metro area is not expected to see significant snow accumulation, but the central and southern mountains will be hit the hardest. The freeze warning, upgraded from a freeze watch, will take effect at 10 p.m. Wednesday and last until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Tuesday’s conditions will remain dry and breezy with high wind gusts possible for the metro and eastern plains. Travelers along I-70 should be alert to changing conditions, particularly with wet roadways and snow falling over higher terrain.

Winter weather advisories are in place until noon on Wednesday for several mountain communities, including Aspen, Vail, Crested Butte, Telluride, and Ouray, where travel could become difficult due to higher snow accumulations and strong wind gusts. Some areas could see up to 12 inches of snow.

For Halloween, temperatures in Denver will warm up into the mid to upper 50s during the afternoon, but trick-or-treaters are advised to layer up. The high temperature will swing back into the upper 60s by Friday and Saturday before cooling down again on Sunday.
