Deportivo Marquense Football Lineup Changes

SAN MARCOS, Guatemala – Deportivo Marquense is set to face Malacateco today at 3:00 p.m. in the eleventh round of the Torneo Clausura 2025, but the team will have to adjust its lineup due to the suspension of defender Carlos Salvador Estrada.

Estrada, who has been a vital player for head coach Hernán Medford, will miss the match after receiving a suspension for accumulating yellow cards. He has participated in nine matches this season and logged 793 minutes on the field.

Marquense currently sits fourth in the league standings with 16 points, and they aim to maintain their momentum in the tournament despite the absence of Estrada. Medford will need to choose a suitable replacement for the match against their local rivals.

In a related match today, Xelajú MC is scheduled to visit Comunicaciones at 7:00 p.m. in a rescheduled game from the eighth round. Xelajú’s coach, Amarini Villatoro, emphasized the importance of winning this match, particularly since his team has struggled to secure points away from home.

Villatoro stated, “We need to close the return phase with 50% of points. It’s crucial to win in order to recover points we lost at home and to do it away.” He expressed concern over the officiating, hoping that it does not influence the outcome of the match. “It will be an attractive game, and may the best team win without the referee affecting the result,” he added.

Meanwhile, Municipal achieved a significant victory over Cobán Imperial with a score of 2-1, solidifying their position at the top of the table. The match, held at the Manuel Felipe Carrera Stadium, was marked by controversial refereeing from Orlando Alvarado.

The first half was tightly contested, with Cobán showing moments of strong possession but failing to generate significant threats against Municipal goalkeeper Kenderson Navarro. The game intensified in the second half as Cobán’s goalkeeper was replaced due to injury, and a series of questionable calls from the referee unfolded.

In a dramatic sequence, Alejandro Galindo scored for Municipal, and despite being a man down after Delfino Álvarez’s red card, Cobán managed to equalize thanks to a stunning goal from Facundo Queiróz. Ultimately, a crucial error led to Municipal’s winning goal, securing them 21 points and maintaining their lead in the league.

Finally, Comunicaciones confirmed the signing of forward Juan Gómez from Cobán Imperial, who will add depth to their squad due to recent injuries in the forward line. Gómez’s inclusion is expected to bolster the team’s performance as they prepare for their upcoming match against Xinabajul.
