Derby County‘s Under-18 team delivered an outstanding performance with a 2-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Under-18 Premier League – North. Wolverhampton Wanderers managed to equalize with a goal by Matheus Mane in the 77th minute. However, Derby regained their lead shortly after, courtesy of a strike from Charles Ebuka Agbawodikeizu, who came on as a substitute in the second half.
The team’s resilience and strategic adjustments led them to maintain their form with four wins and a draw so far this season. Their upcoming league fixture will take them to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, 21st September, with a 12:30 PM kickoff.
Derby’s squad for the match included Price (GK), K Gordon, I Gordon, Tola, Banks, Osayande, Richards (substituted by Agbawodikeizu at halftime), Agustien, Oguntolu, Eames, and Osong (substituted by Corry in the 72nd minute). Their unused substitutes were Rees (GK), Mintus, and Canoville.
Reflecting on the match, Under-18 Lead Coach Danny Maye praised his team for adapting to challenges during the game. Despite limited space to play through, the players exploited opportunities and maintained pressure on their opponents. “It was really pleasing to see the lads solve a different problem today and find a way to win,” Maye commented.
The team demonstrated strong defensive skills, managing to control the game’s momentum post-goal and successfully fending off Wolverhampton’s movements. Maye acknowledged Wolves’ capability but was proud of his team’s quick response and their ability to manage the final stages of the match after retaking the lead.
