Derek Carr Quarterback Saints Injury News

Metairie, LouisianaNew Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr confirmed he has a shoulder injury, addressing media speculations regarding his health during a church service on Sunday.

Carr’s comments come after various reports suggested that the injury could impact his status for the upcoming season. “I hate that I have to say this, but I have to say this. Yes, I have a shoulder injury, despite what ESPN says and what some lady on a podcast might think,” Carr stated. He also mentioned, “I have an MRI report to prove it. The team knows about it, we’ve been in constant communication.”

The quarterback expressed frustration towards the media for spreading rumors and sharing what he described as falsehoods about his injury. “There’s nothing wrong, we’re figuring it out, and we’re going to go forward with that,” he said.

Carr, who has not been present at the Saints facility since the offseason program began, explained his absence was due to a family health issue, adding, “If it’s going to be faith, family, football, it’s going to be faith, family, football, no matter what the situation is.”

Following the speculation surrounding Carr’s health, the Saints drafted Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough with their second-round pick in the NFL Draft. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis remarked that there would be a competition for quarterbacks but confirmed, “Derek’s the starter.”

The team’s decision to draft a quarterback was influenced by the uncertainty regarding Carr’s availability for the upcoming season. In 2023, he signed a four-year, $150 million deal. He passed for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions in the past season.

As the Saints prepare for the upcoming season, the status of Carr remains critical, especially as the organization looks to clarify its quarterback situation.
