Derek Carr Oblique Injury Spencer Rattler New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is expected to miss the next three to four weeks due to an oblique injury he sustained during the team’s Week 5 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. This news was reported by FOX SportsJay Glazer on Sunday morning.

Carr’s injury has prompted the Saints to name rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler as the starting quarterback for the upcoming games. Rattler, a fifth-round draft pick, will make his debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6 and is expected to start for at least the next three to four weeks.

The Saints, who have been struggling with a streak of three straight losses after a 2-0 start to the season, are placing significant faith in Rattler. Head coach Dennis Allen expressed confidence in the rookie, stating, “We’ve talked a lot as a staff about what we feel is best for us and what gives us the best chance to win the game. Putting Rattler in was the decision we made and we’re excited about the opportunity he has to come in, so we’ll let him play and see what he can do,”.

Rattler’s upcoming games include matchups against the Denver Broncos in Week 7, the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, and the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. This stretch will provide a critical test for the young quarterback and could be pivotal in determining the Saints’ trajectory for the remainder of the season.

Carr is anticipated to return to action either in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers or more likely in Week 9, depending on his recovery progress).
