BURBANK, Calif. — Disney‘s upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Snow White‘ is facing declining box office projections just weeks ahead of its release. The film is anticipated to earn between $48 million and $58 million during its opening weekend, a drop from earlier estimates.

As excitement builds for the March 22 release, analysts at BoxOfficePro noted that this latest estimate is lower than projections made in February when expectations were set for a more robust opening. While an opening gross of around $50 million is not necessarily alarming, it poses challenges given the film’s reported production budget of approximately $250 million.

Disney has seen both successes and failures with its recent live-action remakes. Films like ‘The Lion King‘ and ‘Aladdin‘ have achieved dynamic financial returns, becoming major hits for the studio. In contrast, ‘Snow White’ is struggling to generate the same level of enthusiasm as its predecessors. With projections declining instead of typically increasing as the release date nears, questions about the film’s viability are mounting.

“The initial reception to trailers and marketing strategies will play a pivotal role in determining whether the numbers can turn around,” said BoxOfficePro analyst, Frank C. “Disney clearly wants this film to succeed, but it needs compelling marketing to drive audience interest.”

Even if ‘Snow White’ opens around the lower end of the projections, experts indicate that it is still possible for the film to perform well in subsequent weekends. Notably, films like ‘Heart Eyes‘ have demonstrated significant growth in box office returns during the second week of release. However, this requires strong audience word-of-mouth and a marketing push leading up to the premiere.

Ultimately, Disney hopes ‘Snow White’ will achieve blockbuster success similar to past animated classics. Given its iconic status, the opportunity is there. Critical to this will be sustaining audience interest and adapting marketing strategies as the countdown to release continues.
